SSC CGL

.Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Graduate Level Exam (CGL) every year to recruit eligible candidates for various Grade “B” & Grade “C” category post in Central government.

A candidate can go in various Government Ministries like Finance Ministry, Education Ministry, Ministry of External Affairs, etc. They can also opt for various Department and offices like Income Tax department, Excise Department, Import Export, etc.

SSC CGL Vacancy

SSC CGL Vacancy is generally released in the month of January / February tentatively, 10000’s of vacancies are released for the candidates to apply in 2017 there were 9276 vacancies 2018 there were 11,271 vacancies , in 2019 there were 8,582 vacancies and in 2020 there were a total of 7,035 vacancies.

SSC CGL Exam

SSC CGL generally conducts exam after 2 to 3 months of notification date in 4 stages (Tiers), the first two exams are conducted on Online mode and latter two are on offline mode.

SSC CGL Salary Structure

The initial salary package of SSC CGL is about Rs. 40,000/- to 70,000/- per month  depending on post, pay scale and city of posting that includes the Dearness Allowance and other benefits. SSC CGL Pay Levels

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

Nationality
  1. Citizen of India
  2. Subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement.
  4. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or East African countries of Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, with the intention of permanent settlement in India Candidates belonging to the category 2, 3, 4 must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Govt. of India in their favor.

Assistant Audit Officer Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University. Desirable Qualification: CA/CS/MBA/Cost & Management Accountant/ Masters in Commerce/ Masters in Business Studies
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with minimum 60% in Mathematics in Class 12th OR Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects in graduation
Compiler Posts Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or Elective Subject
All Other Posts Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or equivalent
              Physical Fitness Requirements: Apart from the above requirement, there are certain necessary Physical Standards for the post of Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency).

SSC CGL Age Limit

Candidates applying for the SSC CGL exam should not be below 18 years and not above 30 years. There are many criteria for Age relaxation among candidates :-

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Exam pattern of SSC CGL is in 4 Stages

The Composite time for Tier 1 exam is of 60 minutes for 200 Marks and consists 100 questions. SSC CGL Tier 1 exams rewards 2 mark for every correct answer and deduct 0.5 marks for every incorrect answer

  • There are 4 papers in Tier 2 – Paper I, II, III, IV.
  • Paper I & II are compulsory for all posts.
  • Candidates who have applied for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and were shortlisted for the same post in Tier I have to appear for Paper III
  • Candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer and were shortlisted for the same post in Tier I have to appear for Paper IV
  • In Tier 2, the aspirants will get a deduction of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in paper II (English Language and Comprehension) and 0.50 marks for every incorrect answer in Paper II, III & IV.

SSC CGL Syllabus for Tier – II

The SSC CGL syllabus for the Quant section is similar to Tier 1 but the difficulty level for Tier 2 is much higher. Candidates must solve these quiz papers for Tier 2 Quantitative Ability for a better idea of the exam pattern. Major topics under this section are Geometry, Trigonometry, and Average.

SSC CGL Syllabus for Tier – III

SSC CGL Tier 3 is a descriptive based paper conducted offline which includes :

  1. Letter Writing
  2. Essay Writing
  3. Precis Writing
  4. Application Writing

Tier 3 is of 100 marks for 60 minutes. For visually challenged candidates and candidates suffering from cerebral palsy the time is extended upto 80 minutes. Tier 3 exam focuses on the writing capability of the candidate, the candidate can attempt the paper in English/Hindi. Minimum 33% of marks is required to qualify SSC CGl Tier 3 paper.

 

SSC CGL Syllabus for Tier – IV

After the merit list is prepared of Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3 the candidates are shortlisted to appear the SSC CGL Tier 4 exam which is purely a skill based test

  • Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)
  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

DEST is conducted for aspirants who have applied for the post of Tax Assistant in Income Tax & Central Excise. Data Entry speed is tested at 8000 key depressions per hour.

Likewise CPT is conducted for aspirants who have applied for the post of Assistant Section Officer in CSS only. Aspirants who appear for CPT have to showcase their comfort and easiness in operating computer.

SSC CGL Cut off

SSC CGL cut off varies from post to post (Assistant Audit Officer, Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), Compiler Posts & All Other Posts) There are many factors which would affect the SSC CGL Cut Off . The most important factors which would affect the SSC CGL Cut Off will include:
